I Asked 3 AIs for Cinema Listings. Only One Got It Right.

It started with a simple question. I wanted to know what was showing at my local cinema that evening. Rather than open a browser, I figured I'd ask an AI — it's 2026, this should be easy.

So I asked all three of the big ones at once: ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Same question, same cinema, same day. The results were eye-opening — and they revealed something important about how different AI models handle real-world, current information.

The Question

I asked: "What movies are currently showing at Major Cineplex at Airport Plaza, Chiang Mai, and what are the showtimes?"

Straightforward enough. Here's what each AI said.

Claude's Answer

Honest, helpful in its way — but not actually answering the question. Claude knows the cinema exists, knows the phone number, but can't tell you what's on tonight. It's working from training data, not live information.

ChatGPT's Answer

Same story. ChatGPT confirmed the location and contact details, but when it came to actual showtimes — nothing. Directed me to the website instead.

Gemini's Answer

There it is. Actual movie titles. Actual showtimes. For today's date. Gemini — powered by Google Search — went and found the real answer.

Why the Difference?

Claude and ChatGPT are both exceptional at reasoning, writing and analysis. But for real-time local information — what's on tonight, what time, at which screen — they're limited by their knowledge cutoff. They can tell you a lot about the world as it was, but not necessarily the world as it is right now.

Gemini has Google Search built in. Ask it about current events, today's listings, or anything that changes day to day — and it can actually look it up in real time.

This isn't a criticism of Claude or ChatGPT. They were honest about their limitations rather than making something up, which is actually the right behaviour. But it highlights something most people don't realise: not all AIs have access to current information, and which one you use matters a lot depending on what you're asking.

So Which AI Should You Use?

That depends entirely on your question. For creative writing, analysis, coding or nuanced reasoning, Claude is outstanding. For structured, practical answers with a real-world focus, ChatGPT excels. For anything requiring up-to-date, local data — today's news, cinema listings, current prices, live events — Gemini has a clear advantage.

The problem is most people pick one AI and stick with it. They don't realise they might be using the wrong tool for the job — and they won't know until they get a non-answer like "please check their website directly."
